THE BITTER TRUTH ABOUT ALEXA RANKS

 When I started blogging I knew I had to monitor my progress and searching online I came across ALEXA.

it was a bit of a shock to me

I knew that there were billions of websites on the web and here at Alexa there were only about 25 million or so being ranked.   Why?

I couldn't make sense of it

I searched more and found that in order to find a rank on Alexa you must have some amount of traffic besides some other mundane things about your website like original content and so on.

Then it dawned on me why so many people fail to make money online.

Its as much about making money online as building a small business around your website !!!!

And that's where Alexa has nailed it *******

you can count on this inference of mine that if a website has Alexa rank of less than 100,000 then its certainly making money online.

the next bit is even more important ****

If a website has made it to the somewhere about 1000,000 spot on alexa then its about to start making money.. the jingle of dollars is so sweet......

at this millionth rank on Alexa advertising becomes attractive and you can get a price for it as a publisher. And advertising is the good old game of the internet that has everyone running around in circles

NOW AN UPDATE ABOUT THIS

To sell advertising on your site it must be attractive enough to buyers. your content should target and point towards a product or service that is 'preferably' already selling in large volumes or revenues. This can be anything of course but its easier to look at traditional or old products that have been selling for a while as they can be understood.

As I sais earlier the ones that make money have a good Alexa rank. I came across a site that I do not know much about but it looks to me its making a decent amount of money. Its owned by an offline business.

And here I must pause and mention that by revealing info about that site I may be violating some rules of privacy or terms and conditions. For anyone reading this info if it appears to be objectionable or too prying into somebody's online/offline business please do mention it in the comments or leave a message that I can make the required changes. this part of the post can be taken offline or deleted, if needed.

Now to the website I want to tell you about. It is www.citylab.com and it has an Alexa rank of  about 10000.

The good thing to draw from this is if you want to build a good website then you could check it out and draw inferences as to how they run their website. Of course each website is related to a different product or service and so is this one. And probably you as a reader have that in mind as well.

THEY ARE SELLING ADVERTISING ON THEIR WEBSITE.

That should get you interested in this. They are not facebook or google or bbc or mashable or amazon. They are lower down on the success ladder and that's why they are so interesting. Not everyone can come up with facebook or twitter or whatsapp and make billions of dollars. A lower expectation level and  certainly a different kind of success is achievable.

APPLE SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD ON A WINDOWS COMPUTER

TAKING CARE OF YOUR PC

I use my PC everyday for about 6-7 hours and mostly it gives me no trouble. Watching videos on Youtube is a normal activity. I like music a lot and somehow I came across iTunes by apple. I haven't used it much but since apple is such a great product I decided to download iTunes on my computer.

For a while it was all okay. Then slowly things weren't running that smoothly and it irritated me. I did not know what to do and not having any other help could not find a solution.

This continued for a couple of months. Sometimes things would be fine and at other times small irritants would crop up, my internet connection would snap or something else would happen. I could not explain it.

Then all of a sudden one day I found that apple iTunes was sitting on my computer and I had hardly used it. There was also some other download like icloud or something which I can't recall. I decided to get rid of it !  I uninstalled the software and I don't know how but my PC was back to its normal behaviour giving me no trouble at all. I was so happy.

I think this just a normal thing to happen when you use 2 great products that have their own brand images, requirements and so on. In my case windows and apple and in many other instances this could be like android apps won't work that well with mobile phones of another kind even when they seem to be compatible. I being a new user had to learn from experience.

This is probably true of hardware as well especially with earphones and cameras, may be even hard drives and graphics cards and so on. There is no one correct choice but comfort of having your device function in a normal, comfortable way is the best solution. Otherwise you may be stuck with great software or product and an improperly functioning device

If you are an old hand you are lucky and will be able to handle this easily. New users have to learn by experience.

SEASONS CHANGE. TAKE STEPS ABOUT YOUR PRESENCE ON THE WEB

THE WORLD WIDE WEB is big really big and it keeps on changing every minute. I was just thinking that does the web also undergo seasonal changes like summer, winter, fall, monsoon or any other. It certainly follows a monthly cycle which makes sense. But changes according to seasons??? I couldn't find a logic or an answer.

Fishing and seasons are related as are so many other activities like outdoor sports and excursions. Winter is often a season when we put away our slippers and get into shoes and our activity level is guided by the temperatures outside our homes.

May be winter is the time when we spend more time online and we produce more content as a result, we search more, watch more videos and so on bcoz we can't go out. The web is our friend in need.

But this would mean that in summers we should be less active on the internet and consequently things should be different on the internet.

Can somebody say the last words on this. Not in a negative way but like what the actual position is and where do we go from there next. May be GOOGLE, YAHOO, FACEBOOK and TWITTER  have a few good ideas about this.

As  all activities are related to money. Are we all being manipulated by the big corporations according to seasons. A funny thought- you and I get manipulated in summer but not in winter!!! Is the internet a saviour or our best enemy when it comes to manipulation, bullying and plain spying. After all everyone who is online is a party to what goes on the internet and we should KNOW.

LOOKING FOR AD NETWORKS FOR BANNER ADS??

ITS a common for anyone who wants to make money online by putting up a website. how can I make money when I do not handle anything physically? its a question not easily answered for most website owners or bloggers.

THE  thing that sells the most on the internet is 'advertising'

BY  now you must have heard of GOOGLE, BING and FACEBOOK even if you have used the internet for a single day in your life. How do they make money?

THEY  sell and buy advertising i.e. they sell it to people who need to advertise and they sell it again to people who 'produce' advertising in a roundabout way.

SO  the easiest way to make money online is by selling the advertising that's present on your website or blog.

HOW  can you do this- By putting up banner ads on your site that show advertisements.

SOUNDS SIMPLE ISN'T IT

THATS HOW GOOGLE MAKES ALL ITS MONEY AND SO DOES FACEBOOK and many others.

THERE'S  a catch but. who do you sell it through. which ad network to partner with.

THE  internet is a strange place there is enough of frauds, bots, invalid clicks, fake traffic and so on that you seem to never make money by selling through banner ads.

BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT THEY ARE THE BEST WAY TO MAKE MONEY

SO  what do you do? find a good, reliable network to partner with.

AND THE way to do that is to go online and search through all the google terms??

NO! there is a simpler way and that is you simply go and google 'intenet advertising bureau' or IAB and you will know how to make sense of online advertising which nobody was willing to tell you about.

Progress from 20 % to 100 % sunlight

fog and clouds clear in feb : counting hours of sunlight

today I am going to talk about something that affects everybody : the seasons

its winter right now as I write and today is the 14 th of jan. we had only 4 hours of sunlight today with plenty of fog and clouds for the remaining hours and I think by 3rd of feb we will have no clouds and no fog so it will be all day sunlight and day will be about 11 hours long.

 that means 11 hours of daylight on 3rd of feb and contrast that with today 14 jan with 4 hours of sunlight. from today to 3rd of feb is 17+3=20 days . this effectively means that in 20 from now weather will be all clear  -- no clouds no fog and all 11 hours of sunlight from sunrise to sunset..

the change that will take place from today to 3rd of feb regarding duration of sunlight will be that it will increase from 4 hours today to  11 hours on 3rd feb, in a span of 20 days. we will add 7 hours of sunlight in 20 days.

by simple arithmetic rule 7 hours of sunlight are added in 20 days so in 1 day we add 7/20 hours of light or in approximately 3 days we add 1 hour.

so on 18 th jan morning we should have 5 hours of sunlight and then on 21 jan we should have 6 hours of sunlight and so o n increasing by 1 hour every 3 days.

this is to all friends who are reading this -- can you do a similar calculation for your area and check if it makes SENSE. to me in my area it does. but it may and may not work for you.
